The Night Owl's Guide to Getting up Early and Being Productive

Mornings are rough, especially if you are a night owl. After staying up late into the night, rising early will certainly be a challenging endeavor, which is why most late sleepers prefer to schedule their commitments in the latter part of their day.

However, while following your nature as a night owl is best, there are times when you need to get up early to accomplish your tasks. Preparing for the IELTS exam is one.

Your IELTS results can be what makes or breaks your plans abroad. Hence, it is vital that you maximize your IELTS review. Go beyond your usual self-study practices and enroll in an excellent training facility like the IELTS review center in Makati. Make the most out of your preparation period and use your mornings strategically.

Here are some tips and tricks to make your early IELTS review practices more productive.

Get a good night’s sleep
Keep your late night activities to a minimum and make sure you get enough rest. Studying while you are sleep-deprived significantly reduces your comprehension and retention. Curb your night owl tendencies by making your bedroom more sleep-conducive. Avoid using your phone before bed. Remove any work-related or study-related materials from your sight.

Get out of your bed
One of the greatest challenges that every night owl faces when adjusting to an early schedule is getting out of their warm and cozy nest. Setting an alarm is the most conventional solution to this problem. Avoid using multiple alarms as it will only encourage you to put off getting up for later. Force yourself to wake up after a single alarm by placing it far from your reach. This way, you will be forced to leave your bed to turn it off.

Remind yourself that it is only temporary
After successfully dragging themselves out of their bed and into their study place, some night owls waste valuable time lamenting the loss of their usual sleep routine. Do not make this mistake. Not only will this nullify your early morning sacrifice, but it will also make you more inclined to procrastination. Avoid this pitfall by reminding yourself that this new schedule is only temporary.

Exercise before studying
Fight off post-sleep drowsiness by working your body. Exercising is an excellent way to jolt your mind and body awake. Jog around your neighborhood to get some fresh air and a change of scenery. If you do not want to leave your home, do stretches and other stationary exercises instead. Get your blood pumping to awaken your cognitive faculties.

Do not eat a heavy breakfast
Yes, breakfast is the most important meal of the day. However, this does not mean that you have to stuff yourself first thing in the morning. Overeating can induce drowsiness which will hamper your review practices. Avoid this problem by consuming a healthy but not heavy breakfast.
Do not limit your test preparations to your usual late night study binges. Take specialized training courses, like those offered in the IELTS review center in Makati, to take your IELTS review to the next level. Use these effective strategies to reconcile your night owl tendencies with your early morning activities.
